Daisy and Trevor

It is with a very heavy heart and an emptiness here at McGregor when I write to say that Trevor passed away this morning. We know that many of you have seen him over the past few months stuggling with the bone cancer in his front right paw. He was finally in too much pain and Chris let him sleep earier this morning. We'll have a little memorial on the hillside built in the not too distant future and also and page dedicated to this icon of "life at McGregor!" If you have them, please send us your pics of and with Trevor (and Daisy too!)! We'd love to have them to show proudly on this site!

Doggy and Non-doggy Lovers alike will find comfort in a greeting from our two four-legged hosts and greeters. Those who visit us on a regular basis may even be acknowledged by a large grin and smile accompanied by a wrinkled-up lip and wagging tail from one of them. Daisy is also know for walking in and out from between your legs. It's just her way of saying she likes you!
Both Daisy and Trevor have been raised at the Lodge. They are trained on how to act or NOT react to the native wildlife on property. Their presence out and about the cabins is perfectly acceptable as long as they are not being bothersome to you. Please note, they are perfectly welcome, and feel at home, in your cabin as long as it is approved by you. Open doors invite them in, along with other critters such as chipmunks! You will find that Trevor and Daisy have a remarkable retention of knowing where the garbage can is in each of the units. By keeping doors closed, or simply telling them to "go home," they will respond to your request and realize they are unwanted around your cottage.
We ask that you DO NOT feed Trevor and Daisy, no matter how pathetic their "puppy dog eyes" may seem to be. Studies have shown that excessive people food and/or table scraps may shorten a dogs life by up to five years. If you do feel the need to award them with treats, they are allowed Milk-Bones, and other LOW-FAT doggie treats you can find at your pet store. Their favorite treats are Scoobie Snacks! Please no rawhide or other treated bones. We have 19 units on property. Please only feed them 1 or two small treats. Try multiplying their DTI (Daily Treat Intake) by 19!! This might explain Trevor's meager 125 lb weigh-in at the end of the busy Summers! He normally tips the scales at 105.

These two dogs are very loving and enjoy spending time with their guests. They are wonderful around children, and are often the highlight of the family vacation.
They are both Chesapeake Bay Retrievers from the same parents (different litters). Trevor, the older brother, is ten years old, while his younger sister, Daisy, will be six next March. Known as the "McGregor Patrol," Trevor has relinquished the bulk of his duties to Daisy, while he spends his afternoons napping in the sun (or by the fire on the cold days).
