We finally got our first sizable snow of the season. About 7 inches fell here at the lodge and it was beautiful! It was a welcome sight this morning as we desperately need the moisture and it made the lodge and our surrounding mountains look like we all picture the Rocky Mountains in the winter months.

There were a few elk down for a few minutes, but they didn’t stick around long. I’m guessing they went to hunker down for a cold night… as I write this at 7:00 pm MST, it’s a whopping 0.3 degrees F!! We’re almost completely out of degrees!!

I went out as the sun was setting and played with my camera taking some different types of pictures. Some of you may like them, some of you may not, but the light wasn’t great for serious picture taking, so I made lemonade out of lemons, if you will.

Enjoy!

Oh, and the snowshoeing is incredible right now! The park has been getting absolutely dumped on… One way to tell snow levels at Bear Lake is to check the local Snotel site… it’s a great resource for those of us that love snowshoeing!
Bear Lake Snotel
There is a lot of info there, but you can see that there has been about 13 inches of snow over the past couple of days and you can see the hour by hour temps and snow totals, etc… Great stuff!

Here’s to a great Monday and we hope to see you soon!

The Brat Pack

It’s another amazingly gorgeous day here in the high country! There is not a cloud in the sky and it’s unseasonably warm… about 60 today. This is why we live here and why you love to visit!

We had the usual suspects down today, Lefty, Brat and, Little Boy. They were following Steve around hoping he would fill the bird feeders. We’re trying not to get them too used to us, but I’m afraid they have our routine down. Steve tries to make sure they aren’t around when we fill the feeders, but that’s much easier said than done. Once Steve has a few feeders full, they all come running from the surrounding mountainside excited to be fed. I don’t know if they hear him of can smell the seed. With it as quiet as it is during the week, we will hold off on feeding the birds for a couple of days hoping that the elk don’t get too used to it. Afterall, they need to get their own food! But, it’s always great to have them around…we love it and so does every guests that stays with us!
