McGregor Mountain Blog

We went for a walk around the property this evening and brought the pups along. Most of you know Daisy, but few have met Lavi. She is my new little miniature Shih Tzu, and she’s adorable! We don’t let her roam the property or hang in the lobby, so she only makes rare and surprise appearances, but I’m sure many of you will get to meet her!

It’s another fantastic evening! The weather is perfect and the sounds and smells of summer are intoxicating. Of course I brought the camera along, so here are a few for you to enjoy!

The summers at McGregor are something special and this one is no exception! It’s as one would imagine; stepping out of your cabin door to the scene of mountain tops turning from snow capped to vibrant green, colorful displays of wild flowers, birds and chipmunks all about, and air you can only breathe here at 8,000 feet at the foot of Rocky Mountain National Park!

We’ve had elk and mule deer on the property the past few days, and the marmot family on the hill above us is busy enjoying the nice warm weather as well. Guests are relaxing on their patios soaking in the views after a long day exploring the trails of the park, horseback riding, or rafting the Poudre or Colorado rivers. THIS is what McGregor is about! THIS is why Rocky Mountain National Park was created! One must explore that fundamental desire to get out and experience the wilderness and all it has to offer. Most just scratch the surface of the answers the wilderness holds and it whets their appetite for more, bursting their imagination at the seams in the process! Once the lands grandeur and history (and potential future) grab hold, it’s hook, line, and sinker – you’re trapped in its powerful grasp! Whether you never get out of your car on Trail Ridge Road, if you run to the deepest corners of the park, if you hike around Bear Lake, or if you climb the Diamond on Long’s Peak, you can’t help but be touched by this spectacular corner of the Rockies.

This evening is truly wonderful. Cool mountain air is coming off the divide to our west, the animals are out, the sun is low, and it’s about as perfect as one could hope for. I walked around the property closing up some cabin doors, and brought the camera along hoping to capture some little part to share with you… so here are a few shots! I hope you enjoy!
