Archive for August, 2009

The August lull is upon us, so it’s a bit quiet than what we’re used to. But, in a way it’s kind of nice. We have stayed fairly busy and are looking forward to a wonderful fall. You can already see the changes in the weather as the mornings are beginning nice, crisp and cool. The tundra is also showing signs of the changing seasons and is already displaying it’s fall colors of deep reds and browns… it’s beautiful. The elk are starting to move back down to the lower elevations from their higher summer homes. They will soon start the rut and put on their annual show which is always a spectacular sight to see. There are already some harems taking shape in Moraine and Horseshoe Parks. I’ll try to get some pics once the rut gets underway for all those who wont be able to make it out to see for themselves.

The grounds at the lodge are looking wonderful. Flowers are in bloom and Steve (our maintenance man) is keeping everything looking in top shape. We have had great guests all summer long…it’s such a joy to see people experience a place like McGregor and the National Park for the first time… it never gets old! We still have some openings throughout the fall, so if you’re on the fence, get up here! You wont regret it! The fall in “Rocky” is a truly magical time to experience all the area has to offer. It’s the idyllic time to visit. Cold mornings sitting in front of a fire sipping that fresh cup of coffee and listening to the elk bugles echo through the valley… give me a break… it’s out of a movie! I had a guest recently describe the Fall here as “…nice on paper – when you think about it, you say to yourself ‘oh yeah, that would be great.’ But when you come and experience it for yourself it takes on an entirely different meaning. It’s almost spiritual with the sights and sounds around you opening your eyes to a life you only thought existed in your dreams!” Wow! He nailed it! I couldn’t have said it better myself!

So anyway, we hope to see all of you soon! Give us a call to make your reservation 800-835-8439. You’ll either talk to myself, Chris or Susan and we’d love to hear from you!

And for your viewing pleasure…
I recently took a little stroll up and over Flattop Mountain, across the Bighorn Flats, up and over Sprague Mountain, down into Hayden Gorge, through the gorge and across Forest Canyon, climbing up the other side to the Ute Crossing Trailhead on Trail Ridge Road. What an epic adventure that was! I have a trip report on my personal site and figured I’d share that with you as I have no other photos over the last week… I hope you enjoy!
