The past couple of days have been rare for us here in the high country of Colorado, in July anyway. Rain and temps in the 50’s. But it makes for a great change of scenery, as the mountain smells and drama of the landscape are very much intensified! It even snowed above 11,000 feet last night, leaving the mountains capped in a fresh layer of white! I’m hoping to get out in a minute for some more photography, but we’ll have to see! The rain keeps coming. The elk in the picture above spent the morning grazing the property and the afternoon napping on the mountainside above.
Enjoy!

While it didn’t do quite what was predicted, this storm did dump about 18 inches of heavy wet snow on us here at the lodge. Even though we are all more than ready for some consistent warm and spring-like weather, it’s hard to be upset as the snow is so beautiful! This morning was other worldly with the sun poking through the thick clouds, a light snow still falling, and everything under a heavy fresh blanket of white. The birds were going crazy and all other noises were muffled by the deep snow, so there was a very enchanting feeling as I walked the property, it was great!
After a morning of plowing and shoveling, it was nice to come back in to sit by the fire and enjoy a cup of coffee and the winter scenes out the window. Brat even stopped by for a brief visit. Here are a few pictures from this morning and a video of a little later in the morning… enjoy!
